MountBattern primary 26/02/24

On 26th February, Prison Me No Way took a your choice day to Mountbattern Primary School, it was a great day and the children had an exhilarating day doing a range of different workshops throughout the day. The day consisted of workshops including: The law, rail safety, northern power grid, fire safety and prison life.

The first subject of the day with Year 5 and Year 6 was the law, where the children and the presenter discussed a range of things including what age you can go to prison, is slapping someone against the law, what happens if you make the wrong choices and also looking into secure unites (prison system for children) and the freedom you loose if you end up in prison at a young age.

Another subject Year 5 and 6 looked at was rail safety where they learnt about the dangers of railways and the dangers if you play or mess around on them and also the consquences and punishments you can face for it. They really enjoyed this session whilst asking lots of questions and having lots of involvement.

The children also had a session called northern power grid where they looked at the dangers that can happen with electricity, for example what danger phone charges can cause and dangers of sleeping with a phone under your pillow, they also saw an example at the front of the class of how an electric shock would work and how much power electricity has.

Fire safety was another session which took place and was really informative for year 5 and 6. They learnt about all the dangers with fire and how important it is to have smoke alarms. The children asked many questions in this session and by the end had a great understanding on fire safety.

The final session of the day was prison life which the children found extremely interesting and intriguing. The main part of this session as speaking to an ex prison officer and asking any questions they may have about prison, the children had some really thought provoking questions. For the last part of this session they attended the prison cell and found it really engrossing and fascinating.
