Winifred Holtby 21/06/22

On Tuesday 21st of June, our PMNW team stayed local and carried out a Crime and Safety Awareness Day to the year 8 pupils at Winifred Holtby School. The day was jam-packed with a wide variety of workshops that taught students about an array of issues which could lead them to make poor choices in the future. The sessions included Prison Life, Online Safety (CEOP) and Choices and Consequences. Our day was very kindly joined by multiple outside agencies. Steve Gough attended to present his moving ‘Life Sentence’ workshop, one which definitely left an impact on the students. Paul Devonshire brought along the ‘Prison Search Dogs’ to give the pupils a demonstration of their work in the prison service. This was certainly a popular session, as the students got to be part of the demonstration themselves! Sandra Fawcett and her team carried out morning sessions to the year 8’s to give them an idea of what the role of a magistrate entails. We were also joined by Chrissie Noble from Northern Power and Mark Coulthard from The Road Safety Team who both put on thought-provoking workshops. We would like to extend a big thank you to all of these agencies for adding to a fantastic Crime and Safety Awareness Day. Feedback from the students and teachers was amazing! One student said taking part in the day would definitely have a positive impact on their future behaviour because it was ‘really inspirational and taught us about the negatives of prison, and what it's like to be in a prison cell’. We would like to send a massive thank you to all of the staff at Winifred Holtby School for taking care of our team throughout the day and we hope to see you again in the future!
